In psoriasis the skin cells multiply 10 times faster than normal.
This leads to development of several layers of skin one on another leading to thick patches covered with white scales.
Types of psoriasis are psoriasis vulgaris, plaque psoriasis, guttate psoriasis, inverse psoriasis, erythrodermic psoriasis, pustular psoriasis etc. Lesions can appear anywhere but most commonly they occur on scalp, knees, lower back, elbows. Cold weather, stress, infection etc triggers psoriasis.
Symptom: white scale patches which are dry and itching. Erythema or rash on the skin, sometimes nails and joints are also involved.
Treatment: the aim is to stop skin cells from multiplying and growing quickly &remove the layers of scales. Topical ointments, light therapy and medication.
